Internet Map Server
User Explanation
The Internet map server shares Tennessee's collection of GIS data through HTML
web pages. Because of the nature of dynamically created maps, full 508 compliance
is not possible. Therefore, the USGS has on file a letter
of Undue Burden signed by Robert M. Hirsch. If you are having problems viewing
the pages and would like alternative distributions of these maps please contact
Kim Waltenbaugh or Jeremy
Floyd.
- Because of the nature of the map server, the following pages are optimally
viewed with Microsoft
Internet Explorer 4.0 or later or Netscape
Navigator 4.5 or later.
- Some of the images on the maps can be as large as one megabyte, so the transfer
may be slower than expected.
- Each map image is a custom image for each request, therefore, when a user
resizes their browser, the image must be transfered from the server again.
- The normal browser tools: "back", "refresh", "stop",
and "home" have been replaced with map tools along the left column
of the browser window. Therefore, when you finish a browsing session, close
the map window to continue browsing the Internet.
- Please read the instructions
for an explanation of the map viewer.
